(September 4th , 2022)…..The 2022 Outlaw Kart Showcase got off to a great start on Sunday Night. With 104 Karts in the Pit Area it was an action packed night of racing from start to finish. It was a hot one but the drivers, teams, and fans braved the heat and were treated to some fantastic Main Events.
In the Open Class, it was the #6 of Casey Schmitz taking home the Prelim. Feature Win. The win, his 37th career Open Triumph was enough to vault him from 15th in points to 4th in
points after night one of The Showcase. The 81 of Jett Yantis was 3rd in points heading into the feature and drove from 14th to 2nd in the Main Event to earn the honors of being the High Point Driver in the Open Class after Night One. Brandon LaChance was in the McClish Motorsports 1b and moved forward from his 5th starting spot to finish 3rd in the Feature.
Preston Carr put on the charge of the night. He had to come out of the B-Main Event and started the A-Main in the 21st position. He charged to finish 4th in the feature in his #46 entry. The #14 of Rowdy Gramps had a solid night as well, as he started 9 th and moved forward to round out the Top Five in 5th.
In the Box Stock Class the 4b of Bentley Nelson started on the Pole and led every lap of
the 25 Lap Main Event en route to the victory. That propelled him from 16th in points before the Main to 6th in points at the conclusion of Night One. The #08 of Deakon Kamisky had a fantastic night as he came into the Main Event as the High Point Driver. Starting 16th in the Feature he charged his way up to a 2nd place finish which allowed him to not only hold the lead but extend it to a whopping 26 points over 2nd . The #24 of Brantley Copeland had a super consistent night. He started 11th in the Main Event and was able to move forward to finish 3rd in the feature which was good enough to move him up to 2nd in points after Night One. The 24jr of Brody Reinolds may have had the kart to beat on Night One. He was attempting to make a pass for the lead late in the running when a lapped kart spun right in front of him. He was able to avoid the spinning kart but lost a few spots and wound up crossing the line in the 4th position after starting 7th . The Top 5 was completed by the #321 of Parker Mockridge. Mockridge started 10th and was able to move forward to finish 5th . She finished the night 3rd in Points.
The 250 Intermediate Class saw the #73 of Wyatt Miller pick up his first career Cycleland
Win. Wyatt flew out from North Carolina to compete with us this week and he got the week
started off right. Wyatt started the feature in the 8th position and kept his nose clean and found himself near the front of the field with just a couple laps to go. Under a caution period with just two laps remaining, the race leader Khloe Cotton had her right rear wheel break and come off in a dramatic turn of events. That gave the lead to Miller and he had to hold off the field in the final two laps to score career win number one at Cycleland. The #8 of Racin Gramps started 14th and charged to a 2nd place finish to earn High Point honors on Night One. The #12 of Landon Henry started 12th in the feature, survived a wild incident in turn two which saw him get knocked around like a pinball. He was able to keep the kart straight and wrangled it to a 3rd place finish which put him 3rd in Points after Night One. The 22x of Riley Stowers had an
impressive showing in the Feature. She started 3rd and was able to stay within the Top 5,
finishing in the 4th position. The #41 of Rylan Sharrah started on the Pole and had an up and
down, eventful race but ultimately crossed the stripe in the fifth position to round out the Top
5.
The Caged Clones ran a limited program that saw the 3c of Cam Belcastro set Fast Time
in Qualifying, which gave him the Pole for the Main Event. In the feature though it was a two
kart battle for the win between the #43 of Nick Lyons and the 33t of Ty Olivier. Olivier had the
lead until late in the running, Lyons was able to track him down and snag the lead away. He
held it until the finish to score the victory. Olivier settled in for a 2 nd place effort in his 33t. Bob Scovel piloted his #50 to a 3 rd place finish after starting in the 8th position. Joe Duran scored a top five finishing in 4th after starting 11th . Charlotte Simmons rounded out the Top 5 with a 5th place effort in her #04 entry after starting 4th.
