Holly Shelton kicked off the season at the Cycleland Speedway with a victory in the Jim Shirley Memorial. Saturday marked her fourth start of the season and she picked up her fourth top five finish by way of picking up her second win of the season in dominating fashion.
The race began with Heat Race Winners Holly Shelton, and Garrett Brown on the front row for the 25 Lap Main Event. Shelton would quickly jump out front and not look back, as there was never an issue for the driver of the Swimming Pool Perfections #4 kart. She would go on to lead all 25 Laps en route to a 3.5 second victory over Sean Becker who made his first start of the season at Cycleland. Becker proved that he still has what it takes to compete in the Open Class at Cycleland. Garrett Brown had a solid night behind the wheel as well, as he finished in the third position for his sixth top five finish of the season. Casey Schmitz continues to show speed week after week, as he crossed the line in the fourth position in the Ed Brown Trucking #35 kart. While Lucas Ashe returned to outlaw karts for the first time this season driving the Sal Calderon Racing #19 kart. Ashe finished in the fifth position in a photo finish with Daniel Becker. After the Checkered Flag Ashe would get into turn one too hot and backed the kart into the wall before tipping over on his side. An interesting way to end the race for Ashe. The Hard Charger of the Main Event was Daniel Becker who started the race in the 14th position and passed eight drivers en route to his sixth-place finish in the Grandpa George Motors #22S kart.
Landon Brooks continues to extend his points lead in the Open Class as he is now 139 points ahead of second place driver Kyle Woodcock in the standings. Tyler Brown sits third in the standings at 182 points behind Brooks for the lead. Garrett Brown is fourth in the standings, 207 points out of the top spot. While Casey Schmitz sits fifth on the charts, 250 points behind Brooks.
We will be back in action at the Cycleland Speedway this Saturday night, August 5th for Points Race #15 of the 2017 race season. Hot Laps for the Open Karts are scheduled to hit the track at 5:30 with qualifying for all divisions to follow immediately.
