The 250 Intermediate class saw Carson Sousa break through for his first win of 2017 at the Cycleland Speedway in his RFC Karts #01. Sousa who had just one Main Event Win all year last year at the speedway is off to a hot start as he got the first win out of the way early on in the season. The early part of the race was dominated by Tyler Matheny in the Ed Brown Trucking #27T. Matheny who was in search for his first career win in the 250 class looked to have the best car on the bottom of the racetrack. On a restart though on Lap 9 the motor expired on the kart and he was forced to pull to the infield ending his run for the win. That relinquished the lead over to Mason Smith in the West Coast Concrete #97 kart. When he took over the lead, we had an absolute thriller on our hands in the closing laps as he had Carson Sousa all over him for the top spot. With just a couple of laps remaining Smith went to the bottom to take away the line from Sousa, when he did that the kart got really tight and shot up the track nearly costing him the race lead. The next time by in turns three and four coming to take the white flag he was not as lucky. Something had broken in the front of the kart, when he went to turn into turn three this time the car did not turn and he slammed hard into the outside wall in turn four. It took him a few moments to catch his breath and climb out of the car but when he did the crowd gave the young driver a round of applause as he was so close to victory. Sousa was able to take the white flag and cruise the final lap en route to the victory. Kaiden Butler finished in the 2nd spot. Butler has had a great start to the 2017 season and is sure to be a contender all year. Raymond Baldez crossed the line in the 3rd position. Preston Carr fought off an illness that had plagued him all night to finish in the 4th spot. Tanner Pettit rounded out the top five in the 5th position in his #24P.
The night began with 22 karts signing into the pit area. Preston Carr scored his first career Fast Time Award in Qualifying with a lap time of 10.995 seconds. Keagan Medeiros and Tyler Matheny each picked up Heat Race Wins. While Mason Smith was victorious in the Trophy Dash.
